PHIL CERVI
DO YOU REMEMBER?
As night came
And darkness fell upon the town
We made our plans for leaving
At dawn’s first light
We got into the car
And took the road south
And as the sun crack’d the clouds
We pulled over and stopped at the top of the hill
And looked back down
For one last time
To say good-bye
Do you remember?
THE WORLD WILL NOT DIE SCREAMING
The world will not die screaming
The world will not end with a bang
Not even with a whimper
The world will end in silence
With none to hear
When swallowed by a giant sun
Turned pale and red in an empty sky
From which the stars have long since fled
The cycle of existence
Removes all trace of collective memory
And having gone, were we ever there?
For when the world has held it’s breath for aeons
Through countless nights when none have slept
And daybreaks with no awakenings
It will submit
And slip out of creation
And who will know of it?
